2008 Badger Softball Tourney
Updated
On: Sep 04, 2008 (13:52:00)
On the weekend of August 23rd & 24th, members of WBFD Local 2025 put a team together for the 2008 Badger Fireman's Softball tournament sponsored by the Saukville Fire Dept. They started the tournament with 3 wins and no losses and that propelled them to the Championship finals against Slinger FD. With the tournament being double elimination, Local 2025 needed to win one more game to win the Championship. In the first game of the finals, Slinger FD beat WBFD Local 2025 and extending the tourney to one final game for first place. In the Championship game, top of the seventh, Slinger FD was batting and the WBFD Local 2025 leading 6-4 with one out, someone comes through with a game changing play. That player would be Local 2025's outfielder Gussy. Gussy comes up with the diving catch of a lifetime, (2nd out of the inning), does a few barrel rolls, and tries to throw to 2nd baseman Rinzel. After the tough catch and barrel rolls, his throw comes up short, Rinzel misses it, so pitcher, Reisy, picks up the loose ball, and runs to first base, steps on it to force out the runner who did not tag up for the third out. So after all that, game over and the WBFD Local 2025 win the 2008 Badger Softball Tournament. Along with a traveling trophy comes a first prize check of $250. The WBFD Local 2025 team decided to donate the money back to the Saukville Fire Dept. A fun time was had by all involved and they look forward to defending the First Place trophy next year. Congratulations !!!!!
